The Penninsula & Orient Steam Navigation Company's ship 'Emeu' on which Robert Dunne sailed from Malta on 10 April 1854. Built in 1854 for the Australian Pacific Mail Steam Packet Co. by Rober Napier & Sons, Glasgow she was purchased from Cunard in 1859. She was later to ply the UK/Bombay/China route during the 1860's when she carried about 80 First Class passengers. She could generate 300 horsepower, displaced 1538 tons and measured 257ft x 35ft. The vessel was subsequently sold to W.McArthur in 1873 and in 1876 converted to a sailing ship and renamed 'Winchester'. She was lost on 14 July 1880 in the Malacca Strait bound from Manila to Monteal.
